Warrior Gods, written by Lucas Espírito Santo, is the first fictional book of Arole Cultural to young readers. The publication is also the first volume of the “Gods Origins” saga, a series of fiction books inspired by the traditional stories of the Orishas - the African Gods of Nature - telling adventures from the beginning of the world on African lands to the present days.
In the first volume, Obatala and the Funfun Orishas give rise to the Earth and the African People, initiating a divine battle for the power of creation. To contain the fury of the Gods and restore order on Earth, the Iyabas Oxum, Yansan, and Yemanya lay their enchantments, but they will have to contend with Nanã, the Ancestral Mother, the dominion over love and the generation of life.
In the midst of this great adventure, the warriors Eshu, Ogun and Oshossi take part in the battles to defend Obatala´s reign against the attacks of the Aiyê-Iku, evil spirits sent to destroy the whole Creation. Now... Who can contain the forces of the universe?
Eventhough "Warrior Gods" is a textbook, the cover art and some of the internal illustrations resemble the 1980s comics and were developed by the artist Wagner Ramari. An illustrator well-known in Instagram (@ w.loud) for his creations in which he portrays characters from Brazilian culture and black music as superheroes in HQ language, the artist's choice was not in vain: for 2020, the publishing house announces that they´ll mark its presence in the market of fiction and comic books, with publications that strengthen the recognition of Orishas among young readers.

About the author
Lucas Espírito Santo, son of Oxoguiã, is Orisha´s priest and heir of Ilê Axé Orixá Funfun Orun, in Manaus / AM, where he also holds the position of Baba Igbi. Born in December 1994, Lucas was initiated and confirmed in the Orishas religion at the age of 11. "Warrior Gods" is the author's debut in the literary universe, with the purpose of portraying the essence of the African gods and their traditional stories, presenting to the wide society the beauty and complexity of the Orishas. In Lucas' words, "we will never know the true origin of the gods, but one thing is certain: the Orishas lived in our world and their essences persist to make us feel their presence".
About Arole Cultural
The publishing house was founded in 2015 by Diego do Oxóssi, aiming to translate the culture of the Orishas in an objective and easy way for the lay reader or for anyone who already has an interest in the subject "Arole means `the heir` in Yoruba language - one who carries a tradition. This is the mission and the main goal of our titles and brand: help spread African religions, breaking down taboos and stigmata, demystifying and deconstructing prejudices and showing that we are all equal in our differences", explains the founder and writer.
